Description
Buzuluk, Russia. November 1921. An old building is used by the workers of the Society of Friends (Quakers) as a warehouse and centre from which all supplies are being distributed to those people who are victims of the famine in the southern regions of Russia at the end of the war. Horses, oxen and even Bactrian camels were used to transport food and supplies to the people. The Society of Friends (Quakers) also had receiving homes in Buzuluk and Paolooka where orphaned and sick children were brought in, cared for and fed. Orphans were moved to a home when their health had improved.(Donor B. Holt)
