Western Desert, Libya. 19 July 1942. Portrait of a Sergeant Pilot of the RAAF wearing his headgear, who was shot down by an enemy fighter aircraft. He fell into the sea. Undressing in the water, he swam two miles to shore wearing nothing but his wristwatch. He is now back with his squadron.
