Western Desert, Cyrenaica, Libya. 28 October 1942. A few days ago Pilot Officer J. R. Falconer-Taylor walked back to the British lines. He had been shot down and had covered a distance of eighty miles in twenty-seven hours walking time, although he was wounded in the hand and in the back. As soon as he returned to base they operated upon him immediately. Under the light of a single arc lamp the doctor removes the shrapnel from his hand in the operations tent of a field hospital.
