McDonnell Douglas F4-E Phantom fighter bomber aircraft (left rear) of a USAF Squadron on the tarmac at Ubon, Thailand. The RAAF shared this Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) base with USAF Squadrons from 1962 to 1968. Although RAAF aircraft were never in action over Thailand, and took no part in combat operations in Laos or either part of Vietnam, their presence was more than symbolic as it was a manifest demonstration of military support to a fellow SEATO member showing Australian commitment to the sovereingty of Thailand.
