Description
Two Sabre aircraft of 79 Squadron RAAF line the tarmac apron at the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) base at Ubon. Long range Sidewinder missiles are underslung below the wings. Also visible are 167 gallon drop fuel tanks to their side. Australia deployed these aircraft to Thailand between 1962 and 1968 in a gesture of political support to a fellow SEATO country. At the time, the region was under threat of communist-inspired insurgency.
