Description
A USAF McDonnell Douglas Phantom F4-E aircraft touches down at the Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) base at Ubon. Long range external fuel tanks are visible below the wings. This base was also shared with 79 Squadron RAAF who deployed its Sabre aircraft there from 1962 to 1968. Thailand extended base facilities to these two SEATO member countries in response to the continuing military insurgency both within Thailand and from communist backed forces in neighbouring countries.
