Description

A USAF F-105 Thunderchief ('Thud') aircraft on the tarmac of the RAAF base at Butterworth, Malaysia. This single engine jet fighter bomber, the largest ever built of that type, flew combat missions to Vietnam. As Malaysia was not a SEATO protocol state, and uninvolved in the Vietnam War, this aircraft was probably based in either Guam or Korea, possibly only making a brief non-operational visit. The aircraft was equipped with three large underslung fuel tanks to extend its range and air refuelling capacity.
