An unidentified Sergeant (sgt) and a Corporal (Cpl), probably with the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF), discuss the procedures for repairing a deep hole in a narrow road. The hole takes up the entire width of the road, which is bounded by a timber fence and an earth wall. The damage has been caused by subsidence. Maintenance equipment lies on the ground next to the fence, and a military truck is parked nearby.
