Description
An unidentified Sergeant (Sgt), on right wearing a jumper, probably with the Royal Australian Engineers (RAE) of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force (BCOF), supervises repair work on a deep hole in a narrow road. He and two other servicemen look down the road towards a parked military truck. A Corporal (Cpl) (left) and a large group of Japanese assistants examine the size of the hole. It takes up the entire width of the road, which is bounded by a timber fence and an earth wall. The damage has been caused by subsidence, and the hole has filled with a large amount of water, making repairs difficult.
