Description
New Britain. A jeep ploughs its way through rough country climbing up a steep incline among the palm trees that fringe the Arawe Peninsula. The invading American forces soon overcame opposition from the Japanese defenders, whom they pursued into the hills. The scene of desolation caused by Allied bombing attacks and heavy strafing fire was magnified by the ravages of giant grasshoppers which had mangled the green fronds of the coconut palms.
