Description

Rimini, Italy. 7 October 1944. Allied transport vehicles on their way to the front, passing bombed-out buildings on the airfield. Aircraft of the Desert Air Force contributed largely to the capture by the 8th Army of Rimini, key town controlling the approach to the Po Valley on the Adriatic coast. RAF Spitfire bomber pilots returning to base after attacking enemy gun positions guarding the approaches to Rimini, found a signal awaiting them from the Army, 'many thanks for magnificent bombing.'
