New Guinea. American troops gather under the palm trees for carol singing and church service just prior to Christmas Eve. Brigadier L. C. Shepherd is sitting on a box at the right. A branch of a tree stuck in a box has been transformed into a Christmas tree by decorating it with a number of paper bells. The soldiers grouped around the tree follow the service in the prayer book.
