This eagle still flies proudly painted on the fuselage of an Messerschmitt Bf 110 aircraft ...
Description
This eagle still flies proudly painted on the fuselage of an Messerschmitt Bf 110 aircraft belonging to reconnaissance unit 2(F)/123. But the aircraft lies a wreck on an airfield in the Sollum area. Shattered squadrons of Luftwaffe aircraft litter the landing grounds from El Alamein to the Libyan border. At every airfield captured by the Allies, new evidence is found of the deadly bombardment with which the Allies pounded the enemy air forces on the ground. Hundreds of fighters, hastily abandoned as Rommel's men fled before our advance, have fallen into our hands almost undamaged and the Allied Salvage organisation has been able to recover a great deal of valuable war material.
