Description
Western Desert, Egypt. 9 November 1942. Portrait of Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Tedder, Air Officer Commanding in Chief, Middle East (left), sitting with Air Vice Marshal Arthur Coningham, Air Officer Commanding, Western Desert, at Advanced Air Headquarters while on a visit to forward airfields. Air Headquarters, Groups, Wings and Squadrons of the Allied Air Forces are all on the move. With them go stores, Repair and Salvage Units. Ready at a couple of hours' notice, they follow close at the heels of the advancing land forces and in the shortest possible time have aircraft operating against the enemy from the most advanced bases.
