Informal outdoor portrait of 683 Private (Pte) Tom Keogh, 41st Battalion from Innisfail, Queensland. A 37 year old labourer prior to enlisting on 11 December 1915, he embarked for overseas service with C Company from Sydney, NSW aboard HMAT Demosthenes (A64) on 18 May 1916. Following further training in England, he proceeded to France in November 1916. Pte Keogh died on 9 March 1917 from wounds received in action on the previous day near Armentieres, France. He is buried in the Trois Arbres Cemetery, Steenwerck, France. His brothers, 5126 Pte Bernard Keogh, 11th Battalion was killed in action in France on 16 April 1917 [see image H06357] and 3827 Pte Raymond Keogh, 8th Battalion was killed in action in Belgium on 28 October 1917 [see images H06359 and DA12475].
