Description
New Guinea. The Japanese left elderly and sick missionaries behind to die when they evacuated Hollandia. While the Japanese were in occupation of the base, the missionaries had to build huts and gardens for the Japanese, when the vegetables were ready for picking, the missionaries were moved to another area to perform the same tasks again. They had six moves in all. Their reaction in being liberated was one of complete bewilderment. Identified: Sister Ottonia (top left hand); Father Schmidt; Brother Modestus (lying at back); Brother Isidore.
