Description
Wireless Operators and Air Gunners of the 5th Canadian Draft (Canada 5), RAAF participate in an Anzac Day service in Montreal on 25 April 1941. Identified are 403017 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Robert Darval (Bob) Barton, of Singleton, NSW who places a wreath in the shape of RAAF wings on the cenotaph and 402925 LAC Ray McNabb of Griffith, NSW resting on arms in the right foreground. Only months after this photograph was taken, LAC Ray McNabb was killed, aged 29, in a flying accident near St Catherynes, Ontario on 6 July 1941. He is buried in Jarvis (Knox Presbyterian Church) Cemetery. LAC Bob Barton survived the war and was discharged on 27 March 1946.
