Portrait of Sergeant (Sgt) Lionel Frank Sims Elliott of the 56th Battalion, AIF. The portrait was taken in London, England, in 1917 when Sgt Sims was in hospital suffering from trench fever. In October 1918 Sgt Sims was severely injured falling down some steep stairs in the Headquarters billet, fracturing his skull and back. After being sent to England he returned to Australia on the Karoola and on 18 February 1920 he died of these wounds and nephritis. (see also H13901)
