Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) K A Martin, 77 Squadron RAAF, stands on the port wing of his P51 Mustang fighter aircraft. He is carrying maps and wearing a life jacket, and has probably just returned from the Squadron's first mission in the Korean War. War in Korea caused suspension in June 1950 of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force's (BCOF), projected withdrawal from Japan. For the first time in the Occupation, BCOF men went into action.
