Description

El Agheila, Cyrenaica, Libya. 7 December 1942. Bully beef, beans and biscuit seem to be on the menu. A corporal sits on a rock to eat his meal in the desert. All the time the Allied armies have been advancing in Cyrenaica the air forces have been right on their heels. Squadrons have kept up with the advance and air bases have been established on the most advanced landing grounds in the shortest possible time. The remarkable mobility of the Allied air striking and fighter force has enabled the Allies to keep striking at the enemy all the way along the road to El Agheila and to keep the enemy from damaging the lines of communication. Squadrons have often been on the move for days and meals are taken by the roadside and temporary sleeping accommodation put up for the night.
