Lieutenant General Richard K. Sutherland, General MacArthur's Chief of Staff, awarding the Silver Star to Richard Day of Kirkwood, Missouri, American Red Cross War Correspondent. When a coxswain of a landing barge was killed in the landing at Wakde, Day replaced him at the wheel and successfully steered the barge into the beach.
