Leyte Island, Philippines. Awards were presented at Leyte to American and Filipino soldiers who fought in the Bataan campaign and who subsequently escaped from the Japanese. Major General R. J. Marshall, Chief of Staff United States Armed Forces in the Far East, who made the presentation, praised the heroism and devotion to duty of the recipients. The recipients salute while standing in front of the Stars and Stripes flag on the parade ground.
