Description

Papers related to the research and writing of 'Contact! HMAS Rushcutter and Australia's Submarine Hunters' by the Anti-Submarine Officers' Association (1994, second edition 1995). The project was originally undertaken by Lieutenant Frame, but when he withdrew in 1992 it was taken over by the Association. It focused on the mostly RAN Volunteer Reserve officers trained at Rushcutter before and during the war to man anti-submarine systems of RAN and RN ships. Collection consists of:

Wallet 1: correspondence, especially with the original project officer, Lieutenant Tom Frame, the Department of Defence and ex-anti-submarine warfare (ASW) personnel, particularly regarding their individual experiences and recollections.

Wallets 2-4: drafts of nominal lists of ASW officers, participants in training courses at HMAS Rushcutter and lists reproduced from published sources.

Wallets 5-12: forms completed with biographical data of ex-ASW personnel, including their war service, with some detailed reminiscences and historical accounts attached.

Wallet 13: miscellaneous primary and secondary source material.

Wallet 14: a draft index to the book.

Wallet 15: a copy of a eulogy for Captain Harvey Mansfield Newcomb (former commanding officer of Rushcutter).

Wallet 16: photographs and captions used in the book.
