Description
Lady Edwina Mountbatten meets with medical staff in a hospital in Japan. The staff are showing Lady Mountbatten around the blood bank. Lady Mountbatten is visiting hospitals and other medical facilities in Southeast Asia in her capacity as Superintendent in Chief St John Ambulance Brigade, and Chairman of St John and Red Cross Services Hospitals Welfare Department. She is wearing a St John shoulder title and a circular patch on the lower part of her sleeve, which reads 'ORDER OF ST JOHN BRITISH RED CROSS SOCIETY SERVICE HOSPITAL WELFARE'. On the far left of the group is a female sergeant, possibly from the US Army. On Lady Mountbatten's right is an Indian hospital worker who may be a nurses aide or technical assistant.
