Description
An unidentified captain, probably from the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) (left), shakes hands with a lieutenant colonel from the Royal Australian Signals Corps, probably on board the troopship HMT Devonshire. The ship has brought 1RAR to Kure, Japan, prior to their Korean War tour of duty. Both officers are wearing Second World War service ribbons, and each has a black armband on their left sleeve, a mark of mourning for the late King George VI.
