Description
Korea. 1 January 1951. On New Year's Day the 8th Republic of Korea (ROK) Division collapsed and the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), went up to Tokchon to cover their withdrawal. The hills are continuously scanned by vigilant medium machine gun teams. The smallest movement by the Communists in the hills is discouraged by a burst of bullets. This Australian team with tell tale empty cases on the ground, is ready for further instant action. Note the man at left scanning the distant hills with binoculars and the forward post dug in slightly forward and to the right. The weapon's range of 4,000 meters would have placed the snow covered fields and low hills well within range.
