Korea. October 1951. These unidentified Vickers machine gunners from the 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR), are having a busy time giving supporting fire to the Australian Battalion's C Company as it moves up to eject the Chinese defenders from a hill. This action was part of the 1st Commonwealth Division's spearhead of the United Nations October offensive. Both are smoking cigarettes as they fire the gun. Note the large tangle of used ammunition belts below the gun, and the tube leading from the water tank to the gun for cooling purposes.
