Description

RAAF Iroquois helicopter from No 9 Squadron re-supplies troops of the 1st Australian Task Force (1ATF) in the field during a recent search and destroy operation in South Vietnam's Phuoc Tuy Province. The operation, by troops of the 2nd and 7th Battalions, The Royal Australian Regiments (2RAR and 7RAR) was aimed at destroying a Viet Cong logistics area on the coast about 20 miles from the Task Force Headquarters at Nui Dat. The RAAF helicopters flew long hours in support of the operation, re-supplying to forward areas and also provided around-the-clock "dust-off", service for any wounded. The squadron is based at Vung Tau, 35 miles south-east of Saigon.
