Description

Italy. c. September 1943. Transport squadrons are once again supplying the Allies' front-line forces with fuel, food, ammunition and other necessities. In the advances across North Africa they maintained squadrons which hammered the enemy from airfields only a few miles from the battle area. Now, on the Italian mainland, they are doing a similar job, and already many transports have landed with essential freight for squadrons operating in southern Italy. Among the first to land supplies in Italy in Douglas C47 Dakota transport aircraft were, left to right: Captain Denys Main, Wireless Operator, of Queenstown, South Africa; Flight Lieutenant John Brown, Pilot, of Berkshire, England; Pilot Officer Frank Baggs, Observer, of Northam, WA.
