During his visit to the RAAF Contingent at Vung Tau, South Vietnam, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Sir Alister Murdoch, inspected the twin mounted M60 machine guns being tested on RAAF helicopters. The weapon was designed by Flight Lieutenant Bob Thompson, an Iroquois pilot and adapted by Sergeant Ernest Moore, No 9 Squadron armourer. Left to right around the guns: Sergeant Moore, Commander of RAAF forces in Vietnam, Sir Commodore John Lush; Flight Lieutenant Thompson; the CAS Air Marshal Murdoch; and No. 9 Squadron engineering officer, Flight Lieutenant Clive Cotter.
