Description

A medical team led by 216933 Major Michael Naughton (kneeling at rear of group) gives on the spot treatment to 3411411 Private (Pte) John Densley before the wounded mans evacuation to hospital by helicopter. The medical team is administering emergency saline and stemming the blood flow in an effort to stabilise his condition before transportation. Pte Densley was hit by a Viet Cong sniper's bullet, in the abdomen, during Operation Roundhouse, a search and destroy operation which successfully disrupted communist food and arms supply lines. 52865 Sergeant Edward Bromfield is kneeling at the front of the image. To the right is possibly 14754 Corporal (Cpl) Leslie Tait (holding the saline drip) and 37136 Cpl Kurt Mischke.

Pte Densley was the first Australian wounded soldier to have the Australian Dangerously Ill scheme (AUSDIL) invoked. His mother, Mrs Christina Densley, was flown from Victoria to Saigon to assist in his recovery from the life threatening injuries that he sustained.
