Description

Studio portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Arthur Elton Tandy, 1st Tunnelling Company from Bathurst, NSW. A 33 year old mining engineer prior to being appointed a Second Lieutenant in the Mining Corps on 9 November 1915, he embarked for overseas with No 1 Company from Sydney on 20 February 1916 aboard HMAT Ulysses. He was promoted to Lieutenant on 15 June 1915 while serving with the 1st Australian Tunnelling Company. Lt Tandy was killed in action at Poperinghe, Belgium and is buried in the Poperinghe New Military Cemetery.
