Description
A derelict Japanese fighter, a Mitsubishi A6M2 Zero, serial number 4043 seen abandoned at Gasmata air strip, Papua New Guinea. A left over relic from the Second Word War, it is representative of many hulks which are occasionally discovered long after hostilities were concluded in 1945. It was recovered by the RAAF and, after extensive restoration, then presented to the Australian War Memorial in 1990 where it is now held in the aircraft collection.
