Description

The grave of 79736 Private William Henry Malthouse of the 2nd Australian Navy and Military Expeditionary Force (AN&MEF) who died as a prisoner of war at Gustrow, Germany, on 7 December 1918. Private Malthouse had been aboard SS Matunga bound for Rabaul, New Britain, when the vessel was captured by the German Navy raider Wolf. Wolf escorted Matunga north west to Offak Bay in Waigeu Island and a fortnight after arriving there, 26 August 1917, unloaded personnel and cargo and sank the ship. (Donor Mr Cusack)
