Description

Australian runner Marjorie Jackson and representatives from other nations visited a well organised track and field athletics meeting in Tokyo shortly after they had competed at the Olympic Games held in Helsinki, Finland. Jackson, shown about to win a demonstration race, had won gold medals in both the 100 and 200 metres in Helsinki. The man in the dark tracksuit (centre rear) and wearing a towel around his neck is thought to be Arthur Wint. Wint was a member of Jamaica's gold medal winning 4x400 meters relay team at Helsinki and had won gold in the 400 meters and silver in the 800 meters at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, England. The other athletes and officials are unidentified. A crowd of several thousand locals and British Commonwealth Forces Korea (BCFK) servicemen line the terraces around the track. Two large towers at rear provide lighting for night-time events.
