Brisbane, Qld. c April 1916. [Service number] 9 Sergeant (Sgt) Francis Wesley Tyler, 11th Machine Gun Company polishing boots with Kiwi shoe polish outside a tent at Chermside Army camp. Sgt Tyler enlsited in 2 February 1916, and was awarded the Military Medal on 28 August 1918 for "conspicuous gallantry and deveotion to duty" by maintaining the signal communication at the Battalion Command Post during operations on 22 - 26 August at Bray. He returned to Australia on 21 June 1919.
