Korea. December 1953. American Sikorsky S-55 helicopters are being used to transport materials used in the construction of bunkers to inaccessible locations on the defence line. The helicopters are a tremendous saving in time and back breaking labour. The materials, which consist of 850lb reinforced concrete lintels which are used on the front of bunkers and various sizes and shapes of wood, the largest being twelve inch by twelve inch Oregon pine which weighs about 250 pounds, are carried in rope nets hung beneath the machine with an automatic hook which releases the load over the area as required. Here unidentified men of D Company, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR), rugged up in winter clothing, stand by on their hilltop position as the helicopter moves in with another load.
