Lieutenant General John Sanderson
Description
Portrait of Lieutenant General John Sanderson AC wearing a blue beret, in front of rows of skulls behind a wooden lattice. Sanderson (born 1940) was appointed military commander of the United Nations Transitional Authority in Cambodia (UNTAC) in 1992-93, overseeing the lead-up to the first free Cambodian elections in many years. Later he became Commander, Joint Forces Australia and in 1995 was appointed Chief of the General Staff (CGS). Sanderson was the second Australian to command a United Nations peacekeeping operation.
