The Chief of the Australian Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral (Vice Adm) Sir Victor Smith (front, left), is on a six day visit to the war zone, meeting Australian personnel and visiting Allied bases. Here Vice Adm Smith is talking with Lieutenant Ian Maxwell (Max) Speedy (front, right), of Killarney Heights, NSW, and of RANHFV, during a conducted tour of Bearcat base in Bien Hoa Province, South Vietnam. Unidentified US Army and RANHFV servicemen stand in the background. RAN Helicopter Flight Vietnam (RANHFV) is attached to the 135th Assault Helicopter Company at Bearcat. Vice Adm Smith's itinerary also includes visits to the 1st Australian Task Force at Nui Dat, Vung tau, and two days with HMAS Brisbane and the US 7th Fleet in the South China Sea.
