Commando Fighting Knife : Corporal T R Neeman, 6 Division Signals
Description
Fighting Knife. Double edged stiletto blade with a one piece cast metal handle with horizontal ring ribbing on on the grip. Small flat sheet steel crossguard with rounded ends and the ricasso is stamped 'GREGORY STEEL PRODUCTS'.
History / Summary
This knife was carried by VX4539 Corporal Thomas Richard Neeman, initially Headquarters Company 2/6th Battalion, later K Section Signals 17th Brigade and 6th Australian Divisional Signals. Manufactured by Gregory Steel (Australia) after a request by a detatchment of British Commando's who passed through Melbourne. Its design shape was roughly sketched by them to the manufacturer so it is similar to the British Fairbairn-Sykes Fighting Knife.
