Portrait of Lieutenant (Lt) Clifford William King Sadlier VC, 51st Battalion. Lt Sadlier was awarded the Victoria Cross for "conspicuous bravery during a counter-attack, by his battalion on strong enemy positions" on 24 - 25 April 1918 at Villers Bretonneux, France. Lt Sadlier, although wounded, led his bombing sections and succeded in bombing and capturing two enemy machine guns. He then single handedly attacked a third enemy gun, with only his revolver, and captured it, being wounded again. He was invalided to Australia on 24 August 1918 and was discharged on 4 March 1919.
