Description

A group of Japanese school girls are visiting the Kotokuin Temple at Kamkura, Japan. They are walking up steps to Daibutsu, The Great Buddha, a bronze statue of Amida Buddha. The statue is the second largest statue of Buddha in Japan. It was cast in 1252 and originally located inside a large temple hall. However repeated disasters over following centuries destroyed the building, with the result that the statue now stands in the open air. Note the school girls are wearing uniforms consisting of dark skirts and sailor style tops.
