Description

Probably Middle East. c. 1941. Members of 11 Squadron RAF, looking at an autograph book on the return of 407284 Flying Officer (FO) Geoff S. Burgan RAAF, who was shot down by Germans in Libya in November 1941, but managed to escape from a Prisoner of War (POW) camp and return to his squadron. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his initiative. FO Burgan is holding an autograph book which was signed by five German captors. Identified left to right are: unidentified, Reg Rechner (back), unidentified, FO Burgan, Dave Evans, unidentified (obscured, back), Bulldog Drummond, unidentified and Mick Woodham (with beard). FO Burgan, of Woodville, SA, was later killed in action on 9 April 1942. (Donor R. Osborn)
