Description
A civil Catalina flying boat "Frigate Bird II" touching down offshore from the RAAF base. The aircraft was piloted by Sir Patrick G. Taylor GC MC who pioneered trans Pacific, Tasman and Indian Ocean routes before and during the Second World War. Frigate Bird II had just arrived in Australia after a proving flight for QANTAS across the pacific from South America. It is now held in the collection of the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney.
