Kure, Japan. 1954. Japanese employees of the British Commonwealth Forces, Korea (BCFK) were paid a retirement allowance on the changeover from direct to indirect hire. This averaged approximately 40,000 Yen per employee and totalled some 565,000,000 Yen. Here Military Policemen (MP), Lance Corporal (L Cpl) Peter Saffin of Egham, Surrey, UK, and L Cpl Geoff Burton of Stockton, Durham, UK, stand guard with Sten guns as part of the payroll is unloaded at the Labour Unit by Ishimara Sotoshi of Shimizudori, Kure, and Hara Yoshinobe of Gomachi, Kure, Labour Unit workers, while inside the MP van officials of the Fuji Bank check off cases of cash.
