Description
c. 1941. Portrait of Flight Sergeant (Flt Sgt) Keith Mills RAAF, navigator of No. 78 (Halifax) Squadron RAAF. After being shot down on 21 June 1944 while on a mission to bomb Laon in northern France, Flt Sgt Mills was hidden by the French Resistance prior to being captured by the Gestapo and taken to Buchenwald Concentration Camp, Germany, where he spent approximately six weeks before being transferred to a Prisoner of War (POW) Camp, with other Allied airmen. Other No. 78 Squadron crew members also captured and taken to Buchenwald included Flt Sgt Eric L. Johnston RAAF, wireless operator, Flt Sgt Jim Gwilliam RAAF, tail gunner and Robert N. (Bob) (Lofty) Mills RAAF, pilot. (Donor K. Mills)
