Grave of two Australian Servicemen and a British Serviceman: 1906 Private (Pte) John Wilfred Jacob Hindhaugh, 24th Battalion, and 186 Pte Harold Ernest Rupert Blackwell, 19th Battalion, Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. Pte Hindhaugh, a farm labourer, of Yambuk, Victoria, enlisted on 23 June 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Anchises on 26 August 1915 for Gallipoli where he was taken on strength on 12 October 1915. Pte Hindhaugh was hospitalised with pneumonia on 12 October 1915 and evacuated to Malta where he died of the illness on 30 October 1915. He was aged 23 years. His older brother, Russell George Hindhaugh of the 8th Light Horse Regiment, was killed in action at Gallipoli on 7 August 1915, and his younger brother, Victor William Hindhaugh of 5th Battalion, died of pneumonia in England on 18 February 1917 (See also DA13810). Pte Blackwell, a mechanic, of Willoughby, New South Wales enlisted on 3 March 1915 and embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Ceramic on 25 June 1915 for Gallipoli. He was wounded in action on 9 October 1915 and evacuated to Malta where he died of these wounds on 23 October 1915. He was aged 26 years.
