Black and white photcopy of a three A4 page typed account titled 'Bon Voyage Canberra', giving a first hand account of the sinking of HMAS Canberra in August 1942 at Guadalcanal. Written by S5007 Stoker Jack Oliver Rozynski (also known as Jack Oliver Rose), he writes a detailed account of the attack of shells and torpedoes hitting the ship and the loss of life, as well as attempts to save HMAS Canberra before the order to abandon ship. Also included are black and white photocopies of both sides of five photographs, including portaits of Rosynski, the HMAS Canberra and the Willard A. Pollard.
Stoker Jack Oliver Rozynski was discharged from the Royal Australian Navy on 6 December 1944. It is believed that he then joined the United States Forces (possibly the Merchant Navy) and served aboard the Willard A. Pollard during the liberation of the Philippines.
It is known that he changed his surname to 'Rose' after he married. He was also known by the nicknames 'Pete' and 'The Baron'.
