Description

No. 79 Squadron RAAF pilot with his support crew and Spitfire Mk Vc A58-28, UP-M (RAF No. BR485). Personnel, left to right: 57078 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Patrick Francis Donohue, Flight Rigger: 260779 Flight Lieutenant (later Squadron Leader [Sqn Ldr] and Commander of 79 Squadron) Max Stanley Bott, Senior Flight Commander; 48205 LAC Thomas Louis Kakoschke, Flight Mechanic. Sqn Ldr Bott died in an aircraft accident at the Admiralty Islands (in the same Spitfire shown in photo) on 16 April, 1944. He is buried in the Lae War Cemetery, New Guinea.
