Description

A No 9 Squadron, RAAF, Seagull V (Walrus) amphibian, which was launched from the light cruiser, HMAS Sydney II, to assist in coordinating the cruiser’s bombardment of Bardia on 21 June 1940. The aircraft was shot down by Italian fighters whilst conducting a reconnaissance of the Bardia area. Through the skill of the pilot, 172 Flight Lieutenant Thomas Macbride Price, he managed to crash land the aircraft behind friendly lines in at Mersa Matruh, Egypt, with no injuries to himself or his crew.
